The RS Design Corsa Spyder story

The RS Design Corsa Spyder

In 2009 Richard Spratling of RS Design introduced the Corsa Spyder. Styled in the tradition of cars like the Ferrari/Dino 206SP, this handsome "one-off" car featured a curvaceous, custom hand-crafted aluminum body with an interior finished in leather.

The chassis is a bespoke tubular frame and aluminum tub arrangement that includes an integral roll bar. The motor, sourced from Ford, is a 377 cubic inch direct-port fuel injection V8 with an Aluminum block and heads, as well as a modern, dry sump oil system.

The car's 5-speed manual came from ZF along with their CV joints and a limited slip differential.
The car also featured custom milled Billet Aluminum wheels, designed by RS Design, measuring 10"x17" at the front and 13"x18" at the rear, shod with racing slicks.

The car can be seen periodically at events like the Concorso Italiano at Pebble Beach, CA where a number of the shots included here were taken.

Sadly the design was never considered for series production and remains a unique example. A shame too, as it would make a nice kit, filling the niche left behind by cars like the Manta Mirage quite nicely.
