The North American Fiberglass Shrike GT

The 1979 NAF Shrike GT

Introduced in 1979, the North American Fiberglass Shrike GT, was a 2 seat exotic built on a steel tube frame. There were two distinct body styles available, one was a fastback with a buttressed rear deck, while the other was a Kamm style "wagon".

North American Fiberglass offered choices in power from transverse 4 and 6 cylinders all the way up to an LT-1 Chevy V8 mounted to a Toronado transaxle. In that configuration this 2200 lbs. GT was capable of blistering acceleration and a top speed well over 150mph.

All suspension components and transmission mounts were welded to the frame at the factory. In front, unequal length A-arms were used, while a Tornado Transaxle and Pantera springs brought up the rear. Anti-sway bars were also recommended by N.A.F.

Inside, the interior components included VDO gauges, Recaro seats, and a custom Nardi steering wheel. The kit package was very complete and came with pre-mounted gull-wing doors, wiring harnesses, the interior package, steel bumpers and more.

The Shrike was also available in near turnkey form, with only the engine and transmission left to be installed by the customer.

While the Shrike GT is no longer made, N.A.F. does still make two excellent kits. One is a replica of a 427 Cobra, the other a GT40. Find them online here.
